We’re targeting tonight’s Padres vs Nationals matchup for a NRFI with the Padres not scoring in the first inning in their last six before the break and Nationals their last four.

Dylan Cease starts for San Diego and although his numbers don’t show it on the surface, he’s still been effective sitting top ten in total strikeouts among all pitchers this season.

Cease has held opponents scoreless in the first inning in 14 of his 19 starts this season with Washington averaging just 2.5 runs per game in their last four before the break.

Current Nationals hitters are batting just .186 collectively against Cease all-time as they send Michael Soroka to the mound.

Current Padres are hitting just .208 all-time against Soroka with the Nationals starter not allowing a first inning run in 11 of 13 starts this season.

San Diego averaged just 3.5 runs per game in their last four before the break sitting bottom five in slugging percentage for the month of July. Play on a Padres vs Nationals NRFI to occur with odds listed at -115 and first pitch at 6:45PM ET.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2: Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners (-130)

We’re heading out west for our second NRFI selection as we have a divisional battle on our hands with the Astros taking on the Mariners in Seattle.

Houston sends lefty Brandon Walter to the mound and although he’s been much more effective at home this season, the Mariners have struggled hitting the ball at home.

Seattle ranks bottom five in batting average and bottom ten in slugging percentage in home games with Walter not allowing a first inning run in five of seven starts this season.

The Mariners failed to score in the first inning in their last eight games before the break and in 80% of home games this season as they send Luis Castillo to the mound.

Castillo hasn’t allowed a first inning run in 17 of his 18 starts this season including 11 straight with Houston sitting top five in NRFI results this season.

Current Astros batters are hitting just .216 against Castillo and slugging .265 all-time with the Seattle starter sporting a 2.29 ERA at home compared to 4.74 ERA on the road.

The first three head-to-head matchups between these two resulted in a NRFI so let’s play on an Astros vs Mariners NRFI to occur tonight with first pitch slated for 10:10PM ET and odds listed at -130.
