Baltimore Orioles vs LA Angels Analysis

The Los Angeles wrap up an east coast road trip with the first of four games against the Baltimore Orioles from Camden Yards on Thursday evening. The Orioles are on a four-game winning streak after completing a three game sweep of the Texas Rangers. The Angels are currently 1-4 on their road trip after salvaging a 5-2 victory against the Miami Marlins yesterday.

Orioles Keep Rolling

The Baltimore Orioles swept the Texas Rangers in a three game series of one run thrillers. They won the first two games in walkoff fashion and then completed a 2-1 nine inning victory yesterday. Spenser Watkins pitched his best game at the major league level with 6.1 innings of one run baseball. They scored two runs even though they had no extra-base hits or two hit games, Ryan McKenna had the only official RBI.

The Orioles sit five games below .500, but have won four straight as continue to play scrappy baseball. The ten-year journeyman Jordan Lyles draws the start for game one of this four game series. He was spot on in a no-decision last time out with 6.1 innings of one run baseball against the Minnesota Twins. He hasn’t had as much luck on the season with a 4.70 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

Angels Snap Skid

The Los Angeles Angels salvaged the final game of a short two game series with a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins. They also avoided a second straight sweep after losing three straight to the Houston Astros. The game was all about Shohei Ohtani as he tossed seven innings of one run baseball while going 1 for 4 with two RBI. Leadoff man Johnathan Villar went 2 for 5 with two runs scored. It was a breakthrough to score five runs as that how many they scored total on prior four games.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani both continue to play MVP caliber baseball but outside of them the lineup leaves much to be desired. It looks like the youngster Chase Silseth will get a turn in the rotation. Silseth allowed three runs on five hits in only 4.1 innings of a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox.

Baltimore Orioles vs LA Angels Prediction

We are riding with Baltimore here without a second thought. They are in far-better form and Lyles will almost certainly pitch deeper into this game than Silseth. The O’s have a tremendous bullpen advantage as they are top five in ERA, while the Angels are below average.

The Angels have also been horrendous on the road with a 4-16 record over their last 20 games away from home. The Orioles are playing at home where they have won four of their last five games and we get a ridiculously low money line. Baltimore is the only way I can look in this contest.

Prediction: Baltimore Orioles on the Moneyline
