Tuesday College Football Week 9 Predictions: James Madison vs Texas State Picks

As college football heads into Week 10, midweek action takes center stage with an intriguing matchup of James Madison vs Texas State.

James Madison vs Texas State – Sun Belt Showdown

This will be the first meeting between the Dukes and Bobcats since October 2022. Both teams are on equal rest after last taking the field on October 18.

James Madison is coming off a surprising 63-27 home win over Old Dominion in a contest that will likely go a long way toward determining the winner of the Sun Belt East Division.

The Dukes had scored an average of 27.2 points per game prior to that win over the Monarchs, so that 63-point performance seemingly came out of nowhere.

Texas State has lost three-straight and the Bobcats have not covered a point spread since beating UTSA in Week 2.

During this current five-game ATS losing streak, Texas State has failed to cover the number by an average of 7.2 points per game.

We have been pretty aggressive in downgrading Texas State over the past couple weeks, but the box score results probably don’t warrant it. The Bobcats have taken a lead into the fourth quarter in each of their last three losses.

James Madison vs Texas State Prediction: Texas State +7

Dating back to the end of the 2023 season, Texas State has been favored in 22 of its last 25 games. In the rare trio of games where they were an underdog, they pulled two outright upsets.

Coming off a bye and with a little less pressure to deal with, Texas State may be able to play with a little more freedom and confidence in the underdog role.
