Cleveland Guardians vs Tampa Bay Rays Analysis

The Tampa Bay Rays kick off a crucial three game series against the Cleveland Guardians from Progressive Field on Tuesday evening. Both teams are coming off a scheduled day off on Monday.

The Guardians swept a three game series in Texas over the Rangers while the Rays split four games with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cleveland ace Shane Bieber toes the rubber on Tuesday night while the veteran righty Corey Kluber gets the nod for Tampa Bay. First pitch is slated for 6:10 PM EST/3:10 PST.

Guardians Ready For Playoff Push

The Cleveland Guardians improved their record to 86-67 on the season after completing a sweep with a 10-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Leadoff man Steven Kwan went 3 for 5 with five RBI while hitting his 6th home run of the season.

Aaron Civale gave the Guardians a serviceable start with five innings of two run baseball. The Guardians have clinched the American League Central as they now have a 10 game lead over the Chicago White Sox.

The Cleveland offensive attack relies heavily on Jose Ramirez and while they have improved recently, they rank 19th on the season in team OPS. Guardians ace Shane Bieber looks to finish the regular season strong against the Rays on Tuesday.

Bieber is 12-8 on the season with a stingy 2.81 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He faced the Rays in Tampa on July 29th and held them to one run on five hits across seven innings.

Rays Need Strong Finish For Wildcard

The Tampa Bay Rays dropped to 84-69 after losing 7-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. Shane McClanahan was roughed up in a rare poor outing, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks across five innings of work.

First baseman Harold Ramirez went 3 for 4, collecting three of the teams seven hits. The Rays ended with a split against Toronto after winning the first two games.

They currently occupy the 2nd Wild Card spot 2.5 games behind the Blue Jays and a half game ahead of the Seattle Mariners. The Tampa offense ranks similarly to that off the Guardians as they sit at 21st in team OPS.

Tampa Bay will send the 36 year-old Corey Kluber to the bump on Tuesday. He is 10-9 on the season with a 4.30 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Kluber faced Cleveland in late July and gave up four runs on eight hits across six innings.

Cleveland Guardians vs Tampa Bay Rays Prediction

The Cleveland Guardians are favored with a money line set at -145 while the Tampa Bay Rays sit at +125 with a total of 7. The Rays still need to win these games for Wild Card positioning and potential home field advantage.

The Guardians come into this game on a dominant seven game winning streak but you have to question motivation as the days move forward.

What a great rest advantage for Cleveland as they play all of their remaining games at home and they will stay at Progressive Field for their first playoff series. My first thought was under but Kluber has had some struggles on the road with a 5.05 ERA and .283 OBA away from the Trop.

Bieber has already dominated the Rays once and has been in amazing form. He has held opponents to less than two first five inning runs in his last four starts as well as nine of his last 11 outings.

The Rays have scored one run or less first five runs in six of their last eight games. Let’s drink the juice to back Bieber to hold the Rays under two in the first five innings Tuesday night.
