The Blue Bombers host the defending Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes to kick off the 2024 season and I'm backing the Bombers to cover the point spread in the first half. The Alouettes were a Cinderella story last year, winning as underdogs in several straight games, including their Grey Cup win as touchdown underdogs, but I think a lot of that was due to their defence and not as much of it was due to their offence.

The Blue Bombers will be highly motivated entering this match-up after choking last year, but also after knowing they were most likely the better of the two teams.

The Bombers have bested the Al's in the first half in two of the last three meetings. In the Grey Cup, the Bombers led 17-10 at halftime. In the previous meeting, they were up 20-17 & in the meeting before that the Bombers led 10-0 at halftime.

The offence remains incredibly dangerous for this Winnipeg team with Zach Collaros as their QB and several receiving options such as Lawler, Schoen and Wolitarsky. PLUS they have a deep running back room that dominates each week.

I don't like the big point spread on the full game, because there's always an option for the backdoor cover, but I am confident in the first half and that the highly motivated Blue Bombers will get their revenge from the Grey Cup early and often. The Alouettes scored points off pick-sixes and turnovers in plenty of their games last year, but their offence didn't overly impress me and I'm still not as high on Fajardo as many people are.

Take the BOMBERS to win the first half. 771/772 -4
