Play Rating:
3% – (919) Seattle Mariners at (920) Oakland Athletics Total Under 7.5 (-113) G Kirby (RHP), M Spence (RHP) Must Start

(3%) UNDER seattle/oakland. Seattle and Oakland rank 2nd and 3rd last in baseball, in terms of team batting average. They hit .222 and .223, respectively. Only the White Sox (.214) are worse. These starters were sharp last game and they're both going to be coming in confident. Spence is coming off the best start of his young career, as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Manager Mark Kotsay noted: “….he was throwing the ball really well, and you still liked his stuff. For a young pitcher, sometimes they can do more than what we think they can, and there's a good chance that, his next start, we'll see the same thing …” Spence only gave up four hard-hit balls. He retired 16 of the 18 batters he faced and didn't allow a runner to advance past first. Oakland won 3-0. Kirby's last start resulted in a 2-1 win over the Astros. While allowing just one run through six complete innings, Kirby struck out eight without walking a batter. Both bullpens have been solid (Oakland relievers have the 5th best ERA in baseball and Seattle relievers have the 5th best WHIP) and they come in fresh, after having yesterday off. Expect a well-pitched affair. *good at 7 or better
