Analysis

There are a number of factors at play in St. Louis that have us looking toward the over in this contest. It's going to be a warm and humid night, which will help the ball carry. Even though these starting pitchers were not involved in that series, these teams just played last week so there is plenty of familiarity between these hitters and the opposing bullpen. Speaking of the bullpen, the Mets might be in trouble tonight. New York was involved in a ten-inning clash with Tampa Bay on Sunday where five relievers were used. Reed Garrett, Sean-Reid Foley and Jorge Lopez are all likely unavailable out of the bullpen tonight. Edwin Diaz threw 19 pitches yesterday. The Mets' closer has pitched on back-to-back days three times so far this season. He's allowed a run in two of those three occasions in the second leg of a back-to-back. Why should there be increased concern for the Mets' bullpen tonight? Because Sean Manaea hasn't pitched past 5.0 innings in any of his last five starts. In Manaea's last four starts, he's allowed 14 walks in 16.1 innings. On the other side, the Mets have enjoyed success against Kyle Gibson. New York's current roster is hitting .284 in 246 plate appearances against Gibson with a .349 weighted on-base average. Francisco Lindor and JD Martinez each have six walks against Gibson. Jeff McNeil is 7-for-19 with two doubles and two home runs. The Mets' last four games have seen an average of 12 runs per game.
