Analysis

The Mets and Rays start a three game series in Tampa. I'm not really sure why the Mets are the underdog here. Aaron Civale starts for Tampa. His ERA is 5.06 and his WHIP is 1.31. He's allowed at least three runs in his last four starts. Still, he has a 2.50 ERA in his two home starts, but he gave up six runs to the White Sox in his last start on the road. Still, the Mets lineup has been improving all season and they are much better on the road. The are 4th in batting average and 3rd in OPS and wRC+ on the road this season. They also have the third lowest strikeout rate. The Rays also have the worst bullpen ERA in baseball at 5.55. New York will start Jose Quintana. He's had uneven back-to-back road starts but one of them was against the Braves. Tampa's offense isn't anything special at home, but they are top 10 in strikeout percentage at the Trop so far on the season and have the second lowest walk rate at home. The Mets have a much better bullpen and even though closer Edwin Diaz pitched two innings yesterday, he was off the two previous days and should be available. I think the wrong team is favored here. The Rays have won just three of their last 12 games and two of them were by scores of 1-0 and 2-0. The Mets are the better team.
