Overall I've been very impressed with Alessandro Costa's skill set and ability. Currently 13-4 as a pro yet going 1-2 since signing with the UFC. At first glace that doesn't sound good for a newcomer arriving to the organization but those two losses were against top level talent. One is headlining UFC 301 in Steve Erceg where Costa displayed solid striking and power losing a close decision 29-28 on all cards. His debut in the UFC was against Amir Albazi who's currently ranked 3rd in the division and seeking a title shot soon. Not the easiest welcome to company and now facing a suspect striker where the market has overreacted to recency bias on Costa. Rewatching Borjas past fights and I'm just seeing a sloppy striker with decent volume. Offensively he'll seek to push a pace yet technically lacks on the feet. Costa should be the better striker with heavy handed power backed by his main path… wrestling. Do believe it's the path of least resistance and one Bojas seems to struggle. Utilizing his strength advantage working level changes into the mix should dictating the pace. Either working ground and pound or latching in a submission. 10 of his 13 wins are inside the distance always hunting for the finish. Alessandro also appears to have a solid gas tank to push an aggressive wrestling gameplan, while Borjas shown iffy once a fight is extended. In his most recent bout against Joshua Van, Borjas faded big as fight went on. That's a massive red flag in a fight where pressure and activity should be at a high defending takedowns and heavier handed shots. Should slow Borjas down finding ways to finish the fight or dominate on the scorecards. With more paths to victory at a nice price, give me Costa.
