Minnesota heads out on a road trip and we like to back teams in the 1st Game of a road trip if they are are a good team or a team on a Winning Streak as these teams are focused wanting to get the road trip off to a good start and keep the momentum going. The Twins have Won 4 in a row. The Angels are struggling just 1-6 in their L7 games. If you look at just season numbers you would think both of these pitchers are bad. Minnesota starter Bailey Ober has an ERA of 4.91 and Angels starter Patrick Sandoval has an ERA of 7.17. If you dig deeper Sandoval’s number are as bad as they seem. But Bailey Ober’s numbers actually are way better. Ober had one bad start in the 1st game of the season when he allowed 8 runs in 2 innings. That start has skewed his numbers all season. In the 3 starts since then he has allowed just 2 runs in 17 innings of work. His K/BB ratio is an outstanding 16-3 in those 3 starts. His WHIP over his last 3 starts is 0.64. That my friends is a PITCHER MISMATCH!
KEY STAT: In his career when SANDOVAL pitches at home and the Total is 8.5 or less his team is 4-16 losing by an average of 3.1 Runs
KEY STAT: LA ANGELS are 34-54 after a loss by 2 runs or less over the last 3 seasons
