Play Rating:
2% – Cleveland Guardians +103 S Bieber (RHP) Must Start

We played against Luis Castillo on Opening Day with a winner on the Red Sox, and we'll gladly go back to the well again with Cleveland. Remember the MLB "sticky stuff" crackdown that began in 2021? Perhaps no pitcher was affected by that more than Cleveland's Shane Bieber. In 2020, Bieber had a 1.63 ERA with a 41.1-percent strikeout rate and an expected batting average of .185 allowed. Last season, he posted the highest average exit velocity, hard-hit rate and expected ERA of his career. During the offseason, Bieber openly admitted that he's had to re-grip some of his pitches and change his delivery to get back to those 2020-21 levels. So far so good. He posted a 1.56 ERA  with a 0.81 WHIP in four Spring Training outings. On Opening Day, he threw 6.0 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk against Oakland. Seattle's current roster has a .238 weighted on-base average against Bieber in 108 plate appearances with a 29.6-percent strikeout rate and a 3.7-percent walk rate. Dating back to the beginning of last season, Cleveland has the lowest strikeout rate in baseball against right-hand pitching. The Guardians are going to put a lot of balls in play against Castillo. Cleveland's bullpen threw 4.2 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts against the Mariners' lineup last night.
