(923) Los Angeles Angels at (924) Miami Marlins

Play Rating:
3% – (923) Los Angeles Angels at (924) Miami Marlins Total Over 8.5 (-115) C Silseth (RHP), M Meyer (RHP) Must Start

The Marlins opened the season at home in their dome, so they are one of a small handful of teams that didn't get MLB's "extra day off" in case Opening Day gets rained out. After getting swept by the Pirates, Miami could probably have used that extra day off. Two of those losses to the Pirates came in extra innings, so the Marlins' bullpen has seen a lot of work over the last four days. Things probably won't get much easier on Monday. Former No. 3 overall pick Max Meyer will be making the third start of his career and he's coming off Tommy John surgery, which forced him to miss the entire 2023 campaign. During Spring Training, Meyer did not top 40 pitches in any appearance. The Marlins' organization has high hopes for his development, but in terms of what we're going to see on Monday night, Meyer's spot in the rotation is probably coming at a poor time considering how Miami's bullpen has started this season. All four of those games with the Pirates saw 9+ runs, so the ball is jumping at LoanDepot Park. The Angels have a young stud of their own on the mound tonight, and much like Meyer, will probably be on a fairly short pitch count, Chase Silseth is only 23-years-old, and the Angels would be wise to bring him along slowly. During his last six starts of the 2023 season, Silseth went past 5.0 innings just one time. FanGraphs has the Angels' bullpen ranked No. 23 entering this season, so extended innings from that unit will also likely lead toward runs.
