New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis

Two teams with playoff aspirations square off in game two of their three game series, as the visiting Toronto Blue Jays take on the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays improved to 3-1 after beating the Yankees 3-0 in the series opener. The Yankees fell to 2-2 after dropping their last two games.

Yusei Kikuchi will go head-to-head with Nestor Cortes Jr. for the starting pitching matchup. Toronto prevailed in the season series last year with an 11-8 edge. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 EST

Yankee Bats Falling Flat

The New York Yankees started out with a bang, winning their first two games with a combined 10 runs and 2 home runs in each game.

Next they only scored three runs against the Boston Red Sox and were shutout last night, both games resulting in losses.

It’s an eerily similar issue this hot and cold offense had last season. Jameson Taillon didn’t pitch poorly, but took the loss pitching five innings with six strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Joey Gallo was the lone Yankee with multiple hits, none had an extra base hit.

Regardless this Yankee lineup is loaded and can do significant damage on any given night. Tonight Nestor Cortes Jr. gets the starting pitcher nod. Last season he appeared in 22 games for New York, 14 being starts and he posted a 2.90 ERA.

Jays Look Ready to Contend

In 2021 the Toronto Blue Jays were a young and powerful team that fell just short of the post-season. This season they are a popular pick to win the A.L. East after making some key off-season acquisitions.

They finally have some stability as they will play all of their home games at Rogers Centre for the first time in two years.

Alek Manoah was lights out last night against the Yankees, he threw six scoreless innings while striking out seven and only allowing one hit and one walk in the shutout victory.

George Springer led off and went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Tonight’s starter Yusei Kikuchi will be tasked with holding down the back end of the Blue Jays rotation.

Last season, he was the Mariners lone All-Star selection after going 6-4 with a 3.48 ERA in the first half of the season. He faltered in the second half and fell apart, landing with a 7-9 record and 4.41 ERA. Kikuchi will need to step up his game as he now pitches against the lineups in the A.L. East.

New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

The New York Yankees are -125 money line favorites, while the Toronto Blue Jays are +105 with a total of 9.5. Neither starting pitcher has faired particularly well against the opposing roster.

Kikuchi is 1-2 with a 4.75 ERA in four games against the Yankees, while Cortes Jr. is 1-1 with a 5.09 ERA in seven starts against the Blue Jays.

The Yankee bullpen has been dominant, however the Toronto pen has the 7th worst ERA to begin the season. Obviously both lineups have multiple hitters that could pop off and determine a game at any point. I don’t have a comfortable read on a side, so I’m backing the over.

Prediction: Over 9.5

That interest in motor sports turned into a desire to make money off the sport through fantasy contests and sports betting.
