THE PLAY: New Orleans Saints +8.5 (-115)
New Orleans showed plenty of resilience in its opener at Detroit. After a disastrous start that included three turnovers and no first-half points, the Saints settled down and scored on four consecutive possessions before eventually falling by a point in overtime. That second half performance looked much more like the team that finished last season playing its best football.
The Saints have quietly become one of the NFL's most reliable teams against the number. Since Tyler Shough emerged late last season, New Orleans is 7-0 ATS, including 6-0 ATS in its last six road games. Now the Saints are catching more than a touchdown against a Baltimore team dealing with some significant questions at wide receiver.
Lamar Jackson was outstanding in Baltimore's 41-23 opening victory, but rookie Ja'Kobi Lane suffered a fractured wrist while Zay Flowers is dealing with a hamstring injury. Those issues could let New Orleans focus more on slowing Jackson and Derrick Henry without worrying as much about Baltimore stretching the field.
