Analysis

Carolina Hurricanes -166…(5%)… Good to -171

As we head into Game 3 of the series between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers, it's clear that the Hurricanes have been the dominant team so far. With a 30-10-2-2 record at home this season, the Hurricanes have consistently controlled play and won both high-scoring and low-scoring games. They've benefited from having the last change, allowing them to dictate the match-ups on every line change.

In Game 2, the Hurricanes out-shot the Rangers 57-39 and had more blocked shots, winning that battle 40-27. According to MoneyPuck.com, they had a goal expectancy of 4.34, which shows their dominance. The only thing the Hurricanes lost dominantly was the special teams battle, giving up two power-play goals, including the game-winner. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes, they were 0-5 on the power play, which was a letdown. In Game 1, the goal expectancy heavily favored the Hurricanes. Carolina won the XG battle 4.44-2.18, out-shot the Rangers 25-23, out-hit them, and also won the faceoff battle. It's clear that the Hurricanes have been the better team in this series, and the only thing the Rangers have won so far is the special teams battle.

However, that will not be enough for the Rangers to win Game 3 when the series switches venues back to Carolina. The Hurricanes have been a force to be reckoned with on home ice, and there's no doubt that they will come out strong and motivated to secure a victory. Look for the sharper overall team to get back into the series tonight with a big victory.
