The Gold Sheet
(915) Seattle Mariners at (916) Texas Rangers
After getting traded from Cincinnati to Seattle in 2022, Luis Castillo was able to put a strong campaign together against American League lineups that didn't have experience against him. Now that most teams have gotten a look at the crafty right-hander, he's quickly falling back to the pack. Texas' current roster is hitting .323 in 71 plate appearances against Castillo with a .373 weighted on-base average. Nathaniel Lowe is 2-for-5 with a double and two walks. Marcus Semien is 2-for-7 with a home run. Adolis Garcia is 3-for-8. Andrew Knizer is 2-for-7 with a home run. Just about everyone in the Rangers' lineup has enjoyed some level of success against Castillo. His last start came at Coors Field, and pitching after a Coors Field start can sometimes be an adventure. Castillo lost all three starts against the Rangers last season. Andrew Heaney's expected ERA (4.54) is nearly two full runs lower than his actual ERA (6.35). His first four starts have come against the Rays, Astros (x2) and Braves. That's not a fun way to start a season, and three of those were on the road. This is an attractive spot to back a home 'dog with some bite.
