Analysis

Argentinos Jrs vs Corinthians
Copa Sudamericana, Tuesday, 8:30pm ET

Play: Corinthians PK
Odds at Time of Release: -110
Line Parameter: Playable to -120

Argentinos Jrs have a win and a loss after two matches in the group stage, currently sitting 3rd in this group with 3 points. Corinthians have a win and a draw and are sitting at the top with 4 points. But this is a tricky match for Argentinos Jrs, who have a crucial match coming up on Sunday in their domestic Copa de La Liga, where they will face Velez Sarsfield in a one-off match in the semi-finals of the competition, with a chance to make it to the final.

That's a big distraction for Argentinos Jrs, who actually made a poll for their fans asking as to who do they want to see in this match? 50.9% asked for a mixed starting lineup, 29.5% asked for reserves only and just a 19.6% asked for starters only, which really paints a picture as to which match is more important to the fans, and that's the weekend semi-final.

Corinthians have not made a good start in the Brazilian Serie A, win-less after 3 matches, but keep in mind that this is a team with a winning DNA, one of the best teams out of Brazil, and even though they struggle in the start of the Serie A, they've done a good job in the Copa Sudamericana, with a win and a draw and sitting at the top. They also have a match on the weekend, but it's just Match Day 4 in their domestic league (where they do need to win though) and it's nothing compared to the severity of Argentinos' semi-final.

Corinthians can make a huge step towards winning the group with even a draw here, but a win would definitely go a long way. The top seed of the group will move on to the round of 16, while the 2nd seed will play an extra knock-out round, and nobody wants that, as there are some really good teams coming from the Libertadores. Argentinos Jrs are not a bad side, but they have a crucial semi-final coming up and it's more than clear that the sentiment inside the club's ranks is to prioritize that match. I don't think Corinthians lose this.
