971 Baltimore at LA Angels
If the Orioles line seems a bit low it’s there for a reason. They will be facing a lefty tonight which means the four bench bats will likely start the game. But unlike a lot of teams, the bench players are well established. James McCann, Ramon Urias, Jorge Mateo and Austin Hays, have all started for a good portion of their MLB careers. They also played on Saturday, so it’s not like they are coming in cold.
Starter Albert Suarez hadn’t pitched in the majors since 2017, until this past week where he looked excellent in 5.2 innings. Because of his age of 34, the Orioles know he doesn’t have any options left, so they must really see something in him. Both Kimbrell and Cano are fresh and ready to go in the back of this bullpen.
The Angels return home without rest after finishing off a long roadtrip at Boston, Tampa Bay and Cincinnati. Starter Reid Detmers has been fantastic thus far, but he’s gone on this type of run in the past, and he has never been able to sustain it. He limited the Birds to a single run in his first start of the season, he likely won’t repeat that success. The bullpen hasn’t been used much the past five days, so we have to worry about a little rust tonight.
Offensively Baltimore has a 33 wRC+ advantage in this contest. As they rank 2nd in baseball 28% better than league average.
