Analysis

If you follow minor league baseball, you probably know that the Norfolk Tides have assembled one of the best lineups in quite a while. Baltimore's affiliate has scored the most runs at the Triple-A level this season, yet the Tides are 9-12 entering Monday. How is that possible? They don't have much pitching. Baltimore's starting rotation is battling some injuries, and the arms in Norfolk can't offer much relief. Enter Albert Suárez - A 34-year-old righty that hasn't pitched in the majors since 2017. In 15.1 innings with the Tides this season, Suarez has allowed 11 runs on 19 hits. Even without Anthony Rendon in the lineup, the Angels should be able to pounce on Suarez. Reid Detmers has pitched well for the Angels this season, but this will be Baltimore's second time seeing Detmers in about three weeks. Ask Kansas City's Cole Ragans how much fun that is. Ragans allowed one hit in 6.1 scoreless innings against Baltimore on April 3, then the Orioles tagged him for seven runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings on Saturday. Familiarity generally benefits the hitters in a short-turnaround situation. Baltimore's offense has scored at least four runs in 11 of its last 12 games. Nine of the Orioles last 11 games have seen at least ten runs.
