The Gold Sheet
(919) Cincinnati Reds at (920) Chicago White Sox
With Yoán Moncada, Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert Jr. all injured, the White Sox have gotten off to a brutal 2-11 start. In those first 13 games, Chicago has either been shut-out or held to one run seven times. The one-and-only bright spot for the White Sox thus far has been the emergence of starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. In 18.0 innings, Crochet has allowed a total of four runs on 11 hits with 21 strikeouts and one walk. Among qualified pitchers, Crochet enters Saturday in the top-15th percentile in expected ERA, expected batting average allowed, whiff rate, strikeout rate and walk rate. Nick Lodolo is making his first start of 2024 after missing most of last season with injuries. So far this season, the White Sox are hitting .190 against left-hand pitching (No. 26 in MLB) with a .241 on-base percentage (No. 29) and a 57 wRC+ (No. 26). Neither lineup has any experience against the opposing starting pitcher, so both Lodolo and Crochet should have the element of unfamiliarity on their side.
