Penn State earned one of the most impressive wins in the opening round, but truth be told, the team as a whole didn't play all that well. Andrew Funk exploded for 27 points on eight three-pointers while Jalen Pickett scored 19, but the rest of the team was pretty limited. Camren Wynter (two points) recorded his lowest tally in quite a while. Seth Lundy shot 3-for-11 from the field. Penn State only shot 41.2-percent from two-point range. The Nittany Lions did all of the little things right, like only committing eight turnovers, but there's definitely some room for growth in the box score. Baylor's offense is a fair comparison to Penn State's attack. The Bears and Nittany Lions are both top-15 in KenPom's offensive efficiency metric. Both teams are top-25 in three-point volume. Both teams generate their offense from the perimeter and don't have an interior scoring threat. The Bears gave the Longhorns fits this season and out-scored them across their two regular season meetings. The Nittany Lions are No. 7 in the country in turnover rate and did a fantastic job in that department against the aggressive Aggies' defense. Micah Shrewsberry's team has won nine of its last 11 games, and the two losses came by two and three points. Penn State hasn't lost a game by more than six points since February 5, and that stretch includes nine games against NCAA Tournament opponents.
