THE PLAY: Total Over 47.5 (-105)
The Packers offense has some high expectations this year after Jordan Love was nursing injuries most of the year last season. The receiving core is looking for year 3 jumps from Jayden Reed and Dontayvian Wicks while adding Matthew Golden with their first-round pick to fill in for Christian Watson early in the season. The Packers will be assisted by a healthy Josh Jacobs who ran for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns last season while spending the off-season in acquiring 2 offensive linemen (1 via the draft – 1 via free agency).
Green Bay was quoted that “they have everything they need on defense” while spending their draft picks on the offensive side of the ball, but then went out and grabbed Micah Parsons from Dallas. You can’t knock the Packers for going out and getting a star on defense, but I am not as sold on this defense repeating their 19.9 points per game against stat last season. They start off against a tough Detroit offense that can spread the ball all over the field and are even more difficult in space.
Jared Goff had one of the better seasons of his career as an MVP finalist and is surrounded by weapons on offense. The receiver crew is built around Amon-Ra St. Brown and is supported by Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery was one of the best running back duos in the NFL last season with 3,016 yards from scrimmage and 32 touchdowns between the two. The Lions have a stacked offensive line while drafting a 2nd round pick to replace Kevin Zeitler at guard. Detroit has a new offensive play-caller in John Morton, but he was a special assistant under Ben Johnson while building this offense in 2021. I think this Detroit offense could be even better than last year with young talent that have improved with each season and a veteran quarterback who has thrived in Detroit.
The Detroit defense was decimated by injuries last season and are banking on the return of injured players to bounce back into the solid defense that they expected of them prior to the start of the 2024 season. The Lions do have solid pieces on defense, but I am not sold that they are going to bounce back to a top defense after missing most of the season last year. They could grow into a solid defense, but I think the unit starts off slow to start the year.

Consultant Bio
Working at a country club a mile east of Del Mar Racetrack, Sean was introduced to horse racing and his passion for the sport took off. The puzzle of going through past performances and replays appealed to Sean and spent his time after work listening to respected handicappers to learn as much as he could. In his first season playing the NHC Tour, he qualified for the Championship by placing 2nd in the LRF Cares contest after turning his initial $250 bankroll into $3,640.40. In this year's Xpressbet Kentucky Derby contest, Sean finished 6th by flipping the $2,000 bankroll into $15,681.85 while also taking home a 2024 Pegasus World Cup Betting Challenge entry valued at $6,000.
