The Gold Sheet
(905) San Diego Padres at (906) Colorado Rockies
This will be the Rockies' seventh game in six days, and here's how deep their starting pitchers have gone during this stretch: 4.0, 6.0, 3.0, 5.0, 4.0 and 5.0 innings. All of those games were played at home, so all of those games required the Rockies' bullpen to complete nine innings (and one of those games went to extra innings). Needless to say, Colorado's bullpen is looking forward to tomorrow's day off. Dakota Hudson is likely going to be asked to eat some innings today, and that is perfectly fine by us. Entering Thursday, Hudson is in the bottom-25th percentile among pitchers in expected ERA, expected batting average allowed, chase rate, whiff rate and strikeout rate. He doesn't miss bats, and that's a recipe for disaster at Coors Field where bloop hits turn into doubles and ground balls can turn into triples. The Rockies have lost all four of Hudson's starts this season. The Padres beat Hudson in late-September when he was a member of the Cardinals. San Diego's bats should enjoy success at warm Coors Field on Thursday.
