The Phillies have hit a bit of a road block since their 7 games winning streak, but there’s no one better to get them back on track than Zack Wheeler. Last year Wheeler’s analytics were some of the best in baseball from top to bottom, and this season is no exception. He ranks in the 95th percentile in pitching run value, owns a wOBA of just .235, and has a high whiff percentage and chase rate. Wheeler also doesn’t walk many batters and enters off a 1 hit shutout over 7.1 innings with 8 K’s. The Philly offense has plated 48 runs over their past 8 games, a recipe for success with their elite hurler on the mound. Conversely, Nick Martinez is a pitcher this lineup can get to. Martinez also doesn’t walk many batters, but his stuff just isn’t very good, so as long as the Philly can lay off his change-up they won’t have trouble getting right back on track. We can expect them to do just that as they finish up this series with a win. Take the Phillies F5.
