Analysis

Aljamain Sterling (-160) vs Calvin Kattar:

Aljamain Sterling is the former 135 pound champion who's moving up in weight for the first time in career. A move in which appears to be a healthy one without cutting so much weight. Should add strength to his frame backed by athleticism. Saturday night Aljo gameplan will be cutting distance to cage push, working for takedowns. While his takedown success rate isn't great at a hair under 25%, his athletic ability and relentless chain wrestling provides opportunities to control the action banking rounds. Yes Suga Sean KO'ed him but lets also remember how he out wrestled Henry Cejudo. Calvin is a slick boxer with good takedown defense statistically speaking, but hasn't fought anyone with real wrestling credentials. Could smother him with pressure all 3 rounds or finding openings to backpack Kattar. The massive red flags on Calvin is he's coming off a bad injury tearing up his knee in his bout against Arnold Allen. Shelved for 18 months, making his return from injury now at 36 years old… not the best bounce back age. (Aljo 34 years old). While I believe Sterling will be the more explosive fighter as it'll probably be the worst version of Kattar we'll see. Aljo has fantastic footwork and range only getting hit less then 3 significant strikes per minute, while landing close to 5 significant strikes is impressive. Calvin does have strong boxing… yet there to be hit currently supporting a negative striking differential of 5 strikes landed per minute while absorbing over 7 per minute. Like Funk Master here getting it done by out working his way to victory.

Weili Zhang (-480) vs Yan Xiaonan:

Not much I can tell you that isn't already baked into this price. This should be one way traffic anywhere fight goes for current champion, Weili Zhang. An absolute monster in the cage with power big power in her hands backed by an evolving skill set adding wrestling into her game. Most recently, she gave an historic beating to Amanda Lemos where she out struck her 163-24. Displaying relentless pressure, cardio and a strong wrestling gameplan. Prior to that defeating some top level females in the division. While Yan has earned her way into this title fight by squeaking past Mackenzie Dern via decision and knocking out (at that time) the ghost of Jessica Andrade. Prior to that she lost to Marina Rodriguez and was brutally beat up by Carla Esparza. That is the path of least resistance for Weili… wrestle working to ground and pound. Should have the clear physicality advantage over Yan out muscling her in the clinch and on takedown attempts. Believe Weili finds a finish or dominates over 5 rounds.
