(981) Boston Red Sox at (982) Atlanta Braves
The Braves host the Red Sox at Truist Park in Atlanta for the second game of their series. The Atlanta bats have been silent for over a week now. They've only scored five runs or more three times in their last 13 games. They are bottom five in baseball in batting average, OPS and wRC+. So why would I want to back them in this spot, especially against a pitcher who has a 0.82 ERA? Well Reds Sox starter Nick Pivetta has been very good in his two starts but they were against two of the softer lineups in the league in Oakland and Seattle. The Braves are a different animal. Furthermore, Pivetta is a guy with a career 4.81 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. As bad as things have been for Atlanta on the offensive end, it feels like the right spot for them to break out against a tough pitcher. It's a literal gamble here, but I trust the Braves offense to finally snap out of things at home.
