THE PLAY: New England Patriots -7.0 (-108)
What a difference a year makes, huh? In November of last year, Tennessee closed as a -3.5 home favorite against the Patriots (and won in overtime). The Titans out-gained New England by 105 yards with Mason Rudolph at the helm. Tennessee's defense forced three turnovers and held the Patriots' running back duo of Antonio Gibson and Rhamondre Stevenson to 15 rushing yards on 11 carries. We would be shocked if history repeated itself in this one. New England is 4-1 straight-up and against the spread in its last five games, and in the lone loss to Pittsburgh, the Patriots out-gained the Steelers by 166 yards and had nine more first downs. Tennessee fired head coach Brian Callahan after last week's loss to the Raiders. You can certainly make an argument for a fired coach bounce as the Titans will get some fresh voices involved with the gameplan, but just take a look at Tennessee's depth chart right now on offense. Calvin Ridley suffered a hamstring injury against the Raiders last week and is questionable to play in this one. Without him, the Titans' depth chart at receiver consists of Elic Ayomanor, Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett. That's simply not good enough and Cam Ward is likely going to continue struggling through out his rookie season. Patriots pull away for a big win! Play New England
THE PLAY: California -9.5 (-109)
This will be the first meeting between these new conference foes since Cal swept a two-game series in 2017-18. Both teams are coming off bye weeks after each suffered disappointing losses the week prior. North Carolina has been out-scored 120-33 in three losses to TCU, UCF and Clemson. Since beating Miami (Fla) in October 2023, the Tar Heels have gone 5-19-1 against the spread. Cal is coming off a surprising 45-21 home loss to Duke. The Bears scored three touchdowns on their first three possessions then failed to score another point after that. Duke ended the game on a 38-0 run as QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw three interceptions. The true freshman has shown plenty of promise and upside this season, but he's also thrown a total of six interceptions in Cal's last three games. Bill Belichick gave a very interesting interview during ESPN’s College Gameday prior to the Tar Heels’ 38-10 loss to Clemson where he quickly steered the conversation toward talent, recruiting and transfers. Belichick made it very clear that the cupboard was empty when he arrived in Chapel Hill and his staff needs to make a big splash in recruiting to build what he needs to succeed at the college level. So did the Tar Heels spend the bye week working on a gameplan for the rest of the season, or were they on the recruiting trail? Bears by double-digits! Play California
THE PLAY: Rockets Under 53.5 Reg Season Wins
Houston Rockets Under 53.5 Reg Season Wins (Draft Kings)
The Rockets suffered a crucial blow during the offseason as starting point guard Fred VanVleet tore his ACL and will likely be out the entire regular season. Sure, the team did trade for Kevin Durant, but for how many games can they expect the veteran to be healthy for? Over the last five years he’s averaged just 49 games played per season with the Rockets letting go of Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks in the trade this offseason. Houston will be reuniting with longtime center Clint Capela but the backcourt is where they may struggle. Amen Thompson will be the starting shooting guard, but the team may have to turn to Reed Sheppard for a ton of quality minutes before they wanted with the VanVleet injury. Sheppard did impress in the G-League last season, but he didn’t see many opportunities on the main roster averaging just 12.6 minutes per game, 4.4 points per game while shooting 34% from three-point range. Aside from Sheppard Houston will also have to heavily rely on Aaron Holiday and Josh Okogie in the backcourt averaging a combined 12 points per game last season. We’re not saying Houston doesn’t make the playoffs, but we see them as possibly more of a play-in team and playing their way into the playoffs from there, hopefully with the return of VanVleet already happening or soon occurring at that point of the season. Of course, they can make a move to acquire another backcourt star during the season, but after the Durant trade they may not have much more to give up to gain a star guard. With the Rockets winning 52 games last season, we don’t think they win more than that this season going under 53.5 wins during the 2025-26 NBA regular season. Under 53.5 (-120)
