Quick verdict: How legit is Onyx Odds?

When Onyx Odds first entered the social betting scene back in 2024, I knew right away it’d make an impact. That instinct was spot on. This site has it all – almost.

In today’s Onyx Odds review, I’ll talk about what makes the site work, and what minor issues are holding it back a bit. I’ll start by exploring all the action head on, unpacking the brand’s strong market coverage and odds, and how its virtual currency-based social betting setup works. From there, I’ll review its reputation, bonuses and more.

When I want to enjoy some sports betting without laying my bankroll on the line, I head straight for Onyx Odds. The virtual currencies replicate the sportsbook experience across major leagues and betting markets, with Onyx Coins that are just for fun, while Onyx Cash winnings can be redeemed for real prizes.

The VIP program is a standout feature, and I’ve been making steady progress through the levels, helping myself to increasing benefits along the way. The lack of apps isn’t a problem for me, thanks to the site’s mobile-friendly design, with easy site navigation that makes Onyx Odds a viable proposition, even for sports betting newbies.

Review of the Onyx Odds social betting site

Regular readers among you will know I like to get straight to the point. So, allow me to kick off today’s Onyx Odds review by getting straight into the site's namesake - the odds.

Whether you’re into backing top NFL ball hawks and road graders, or you’re more of an NBA person out to guess the next big slam dunk, Onyx Odds covers pretty much all popular American sports – with NFL, NCAA, NBA, NHL, MLB and UFC all on the books at the time of writing.

Having said all that, before you register with Onyx Odds, you have to remember this is a social betting site and not your standard sportsbook.

      How does Onyx Odds work?

My Onyx Odds review found that the site is actually very easy to understand. Instead of placing cash bets, you’ll be making all your sports predictions using two types of virtual currencies, which work as follows:

      • Onyx Coins: an entertainment-only virtual currency. You can use them to place just for fun social bets.
      • Onyx Cash: a sweepstakes-style virtual currency. Get enough Onyx Cash from making successful social picks on your favorite sports (20 Onyx Cash or more), and you can redeem your Onyx Cash winnings for actual real-life prizes, subject to T&Cs.

Much as I encountered during my recent Thrillzz review, Onyx Odds has a no purchase necessary policy in place. It also offers free-to-claim bonuses that I’ll get to in a bit.

That said, I found a 1x playthrough requirement applies to any bonus Onyx Cash that comes your way, as does the minimum prize redemption requirement of 20 Onyx Cash that I already mentioned above.

What odds and markets are up for grabs?

As I said, NFL, NBA, NHL and UFC odds are all on the board here. As are numbers on NCAAF games and tennis tournaments, meaning there’s plenty of scope to mix your social bets up a bit if ever you get bored with one market or another.

As for the numbers themselves, I was impressed by how competitive the odds were. There aren’t any omissions of popular social bet types, either – you can drop lines, point spreads, parlays, and anything else in between, switching between Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash plays with a single click.

Meanwhile, ever-rotating promotions mean that things like bonus boosts are there to keep everything exciting.

Any special features for the taking?

Absolutely. My Onyx Odds review found this operator’s about as feature-packed as they come in the social betting space. Some of my personal favorite aspects of the site include:

      • Diverse betting options: parlays and in-plays are primary site staples here, which isn't always the case with other social sportsbooks.
      • Multi-device compatibility: Onyx is entirely web-based, yet totally mobile-friendly, meaning you can play from whatever device you want without being forced to download any bloated apps first.
      • Perk-packed VIP scheme: a great addition, which I’ll explain more about later.
      • Broad US availability: with 35+ permitted parts of the US listed at the time of writing.

Reputation – Onyx Odds is legit, and here’s why…

Next up, let’s look at the brand’s reputation. Having first set up shop in 2014, Onyx Odds has built up a bold name for itself in the decade since its inception.

I found that TrustPilot ratings consistently praise the brand’s odds and dependable customer support, while there’s plenty of talk about the site being available in more than 35 different US states right now, too.

At the time of writing, you can play with Onyx Odds’ virtual currency-based sports picks legally from anywhere in the US except for AL, CO, CT, ID, LA, MD, NJ, NY, MI, MT, NV, TN, WV and WA.

When it comes to safety, the site is solid. My Onyx Odds review found that it offers top-tier SSL encryption, full compliance with sweepstakes laws in its legal states, and swathes of responsible gaming resources. I’m talking things like fully customizable social bet limits and external links to fully fledged support organizations.

My Onyx Odds review’s take on the site’s bonuses

Find your favorite sports at Onyx Odds

Onyx Odds is serious when it comes to bonuses. Like Shohei Ohtani going for the home run, the site knows exactly what it’s doing here, offering all sorts of exciting promos for both new and existing social bettors.

When I signed up, I was immediately gifted 1,000 Onyx Coins straight off the bat, with no Onyx Odds promo code requirement or anything. Although I would advise giving my recent bonus review a good read before playing said offer through.

Just a couple of minutes after I registered with Onyx Odds, I was also invited to go after a strictly optional “Bonus Picks” offer, which is effectively your classic social betting first Onyx Coins purchase promo.

How do these sorts of offers work? Well, as is the deal with most social sportsbooks, Onyx Odds can be enjoyed as much as you like on a no purchase necessary basis. But if you choose to make an optional Onyx Coin purchase, you’ll often get a bonus.

To share a quick example, I recently bought a 10,000 Onyx Coins bundle and got a bonus of 10 free Onyx Cash to play around with. While first-time users like yourselves can currently unlock 100 Onyx Cash “Bonus Picks” alongside your first optional Onyx Coins buy-in.

Naturally, all the offers up for grabs with the brand vary by region. So, I’d suggest checking your local T&Cs before physically claiming anything. Everybody gets access to a variety of bonuses, though.

A bit about Onyx Odds’ design

For me, one of the major draws of Onyx Odds is its design. As I pointed out a few sections back, there’s no app here. Nor any mandatory download requirement to get in the game, either – Onyx Odds is entirely web-based, yet designed at the back end with mobile friendliness firmly in mind.

As such, everything loads up neatly, no matter what kind of device you throw at it. In fact, I felt just as at home piecing together MLB parlays from my big screen monitor as I did lining up the very same selections from my old iPhone 13 Mini.

Everything’s easy to use over here, too. There are one-click betting tools and a no-nonsense layout. My Onyx Odds review loved the dark mode inspired, ad-free design, and the fact that potential winnings are denoted in Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash above each selection before you even start adding to your slip.

Right here is a brand that’s easy to use, even if it’s your first time social betting.

Onyx Coin purchase options uncovered by my Onyx Odds review

Being a social betting site, payments at Onyx Odds work in much the same manner as they do at virtual currency-based sweepstakes casinos, if you’ve ever played at one of those before.

Much as I found in my recent Legendz Casino review, you can use various trusted and legit payment options to purchase optional Gold Coins (GC) bundles whenever you like – except the entertainment-only virtual currency used here is called Onyx Coins, of course.

As I said earlier, there’s no obligation on your part to opt into any Onyx Coin purchases if you don’t want to. Currently, Onyx Coins bundles start out from $10, which will get you 10,000 Onyx Coins and unlock 10 free Onyx Cash. They then go all the way up to $500, which is good for 500,000 Onyx Coins plus a complimentary 500 Onyx Cash bonus.

As for the payment options available, you’ll find a dependable lineup, with all the following trusted cards, e-wallets and more supported on Onyx Coins purchases at the time of writing:

      • VISA
      • MasterCard
      • Discover
      • Amex
      • ACH
      • Trustly
      • Apple Pay
      • Skrill

But how does it work when redeeming your Onyx Cash winnings for prizes? Well, let’s take a look.

Onyx Cash redemption need to knows

For starters, my Onyx Odds review found that any Onyx Cash that hits your account is subject to a 1x playthrough requirement before it’ll be considered redeemable. While having 20 played-through Onyx Cash or more is a must before you can request a prize redemption, too.

Bank transfer’s the main redemption option offered, and that 20 Onyx Cash minimum is about as low as they come. Check out some competitors’ redemption rules if you want to see for yourself.

Solid enough customer support at Onyx Odds

I’ve already explained that whenever you login to Onyx Odds, everything you need is easy to find.

But if ever you get lost, there’s an FAQ on the main homepage to help you find your way, along with some other support options that’ll help you get what you need.

Email is the primary contact method available. My Onyx Odds review found you can usually expect a friendly response within a couple of hours tops, unless the brand’s online social betting site is packed to capacity - a possibility during peak periods like Super Bowl season.

Sadly, one glaring omission from the site is that there’s no on-page live chat feature yet, despite such tools being pretty standardized among most of Onyx Odds’ competitors these days. Nevertheless, there are direct links to the brand’s Insta, X and FB accounts in its site footer – so, DM is available as an alternative if you’re getting desperate.

Their X account pinged me back fastest when I tested all the options. So, that's always an option if you don't seem to be getting a response.

Extra rewards and VIP perks for the taking

If Onyx Odds’ welcome offers don’t appeal to you, I found that there are all sorts of exciting existing customer promos to use at a later point.

Some of the best are those that form part of the brand’s VIP program, which my Onyx Odds review found you can start chasing from day one of joining.

How does the club work? Well, all the virtual currency-based bets you put down on anything from the MLB Playoffs to tennis grand slams help you stack up loyalty points, which in turn, contribute toward bumping you up in the tier-driven program. The higher you climb, the more on-site benefits and rewards you can unlock, ranging from Onyx Cash bonuses to specially tailored player perks.

Meanwhile, other Onyx Odds offers that easily rival the best Legendz Casino promo codes and other social betting bonuses I’ve seen lately, include:

      Onyx Odds bonusHow it works
Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE) offerThis one’s much simpler than it sounds when you look past the acronym. Basically, send a handwritten postcard request to Onyx Odds’ HQ that ticks off all the offer’s T&Cs, and you can unlock 5 free Onyx Cash.

My Onyx Odds review found it’s possible to send in 100 individual requests here, too!
Parlay boostsThese are rotated in and out of season, of course, but every once in a while, parlay boost promos of up to 100% are promoted by the site – sometimes even with same game parlays qualifying for the promotion.
Refer a friend bonusOnyx Odds spreads the love with its referral bonus, too. This one’s worth up to 25 free picks if you can get a friend to register via your official referral link, then make a qualifying Onyx Coins pack purchase at their end after signing up. That said, all Onyx Coin purchases are optional – your friend can stay free-to-play if they want.

So, there's a good variety of bonuses here, despite the lack of an Onyx Odds login bonus – which, I have to admit, I was a little surprised not to see when penning today’s review. These kinds of offers are standard stuff among many of the site’s competitors.

How to get started with Onyx Odds today

If you’re liking the sound of all that Onyx Odds has to offer, I’ve got some more good news for you – my Onyx Odds review found it’s easy to set up a new player account and grab your initial 1,000 Onyx Coins sign-up bonus.

How? Well, here are some simple steps you can follow:

      1. Click any of my links here – which’ll take you right to Onyx Odds’ official site.

      2. Tap the purple “Sign Up” icon in the top right hand corner.

      3. Fill out the site’s registration form with a few basic details.

      4. Read and accept the T&Cs – remembering that social betting here is prohibited in AL, CO, CT, ID, LA, MD, NJ, NY, MI, MT, NV, TN, WV and WA.

      5. Submit your form, then verify yourself via email.

      6. Log in to Onyx Odds for the first time to automatically get your 1,000 Onyx Coins bonus.

That’s about all there is to it. And as we’ve seen, you’ll have the option of getting plenty of other promos here later down the line, too.

My Onyx Odds review conclusion – a truly superb social betting site

Onyx Odds delivers exactly the action you’d expect from a top-notch social betting brand. Here, you’ll find top odds across a ton of major and minor leagues, solid bonuses, and a market-leading UI that does away with any download requirement.

Sure, there’s room to tighten up the playbook a bit – perhaps by introducing a live chat feature or a daily login bonus, for example – but overall, this sportsbook delivers on what most users are looking for.

My Onyx Odds review’s final thoughts? This is a beginner-friendly social sportsbook that offers all the right numbers on all the right markets – and a solid pick for sports fans everywhere.

And don't forget, you can sign up today and grab a 1,000 Onyx Coins bonus from any eligible US state using my links on this page.

      Onyx Odds review FAQ

Is Onyx Odds any good for experienced bettors?

Absolutely. While the brand’s interface has been set up with one click tools and clear lines to cater more toward beginners, there are still plenty of betting options – ranging from classic lines and point spreads, to props, parlays and then some. The brand’s market coverage is great, too - even if you’re into more niche leagues.

What’s the latest Onyx Odds bonus worth?

My Onyx Odds review found you can snag 1,000 Onyx Coins for free when you first sign up from an eligible US state. While a “Bonus Picks” offer is up for grabs the first time you make an optional Onyx Coins purchase on the site, too.

Does Onyx Odds have any casino-style games?

Nope – not right now. My Onyx Odds review found that the site prioritizes social betting experiences over all else, and therefore doesn’t currently offer any sweepstakes casino games. Should that change, mind, I’ll be the first to let you know.
