4% Middle Tennessee State @ Memphis
Seems classic case of irritated prohibitive home favorite that needs somebody to go hang 50+ on. Memphis is that team and they have that opponent here in Middle Tennessee State who has yielded 52, 49 & 45 points the L3W. Mississippi & Western Kentucky each went for 600+ total yards against MTSU throwing for an average of 439. WKU did the majority of its damage to the Blue Raiders in the 2H with their backup QB Caden Veltkamp entering for injured starter T.J. Finley. Memphis fits right in that category with multi year starting QB Seth Hennigan off of a 385 yard outing vs. Navy last week. Run game contributed heavily as well accumulating 274 ry making it a 659 ty day and marking the second time they’ve gone for 220+ rushing in their 4 games (211 vs Troy). It all figures to be overwhelming for the Middle Tennessee defense under the 1st year system of new HC Derek Mason. They can however help the process here with their own multi season starting QB Nicholas Vattiato who’s throwing for 250.5 per game. Memphis defense hasn’t faced a passing offense in the Top 80 this season and Middle Tennessee State ranks #46. Can’t expect them to do massive scoreboard damage but they’re capable of doing enough and generous enough defensively to allow Memphis to do the heavy lifting. Like having 62 available to get the win here in contest where final result should climb safely above the posted number.
