1.5% Army @ Temple
Temple Defense vs. The Run
Bottom tier FBS rush defense ranked #112 / Allow 221.3 rypg
Allowed 178 rush yards last week to Utah State (5.9 ypc) , 184 to Coastal Carolina (4.6 ypc) , 220 to Oklahoma (5.8 ypc) which are all Spread teams
The True Comp Game & Result
Faced Navy’s new “Hybrid” Wing T Attack and allowed 297 ry on 51 carries for 5.8 per rush
Lost 38-11 & Trailed 38-3 after 3 quarters & Gave up explosive TD runs of 62 & 65 yds
Outlook
Some suggestions out there that Temple has already seen the option this season and that’ll help them BUT…
Their stat lines and game logs suggest that won’t help at all & they’re just a week-week poor rush defense
Top 3 Army ball carriers include veteran QB Bryson Daily (113.3 rypg) & slot back/receiver Noah Short who’s averaging 13.3 per carry
Temple is probably going to get hurt by some 20+ yard plays
Army also converting 58.3% of their 3rd down chances this season (#4 rate in the country)
They’ve lost 1 fumble in 170 rush attempts this season so getting the ball back from them is very tough
13 redzone trips in their 3 games this season = 12 TD’s (92.3%) & 1 FG
Real good number when you’re trying to cover a -12.5 point number
Temple Offensive Counter
QB Evan Simon who replaced starter Forrest Brock a couple games ago
Thise 2 starts are pretty promising: 65.4% completions / 7 TD’s just 1 int
Team scored 20 points @ Coastal Carolina & then had 4 TD drives of between 65-94 yards LW vs Utah State BUT…
Temple also punted on 6 possessions 5 of which were 3 & outs
Problem is Army owns the #25 Total Defense in the country allowing 271.3 typg AND
Temple is really a lopsided “pass reliant” offense & that averages just 3.1 ypc and faces the #9 Army rush defense allowing only 85 ypg
Final Look
Overlooked aspect of this game might be the Army pass defense which ranks #48 in the nation WHICH…
Is right in line with 2 teams Temple already faced…Coastal Carolina (#46) & Oklahoma (#41)
Another huge factor here is Temple’s -10 Turnover ratio
There a limited possessions allotted to opponents in Army games and Temple’a had 30 possessions in 4 games result in punts or turnovers
Army went to Boca Raton earlier and beat Florida Atlantic which is a step above Temple by 17
