Analysis

5% Rotation #975: MLB Tuesday 5% OVER 9.5 in Los Angeles Angels vs Los Angeles Dodgers @ 9:38 ET - This total might seem on the high side at 9.5 runs but there is a reason the odds makers hung a big number on this game. The Dodgers lineup is absolutely firing on all cylinders right now and they have a struggling starting pitcher taking the mound for them here. That said, this is the perfect recipe for a slugfest in Anaheim. Also, the weather is heating up in Southern California right now and high temperatures near 90 degrees today will not have cooled off much by the time this game gets underway. I expect the ball to carry well here. The Dodgers are expected to start Walker Buehler here and the Angels counter with Reid Detmers. As per usual, my MLB bet here is with action on the pitchers. Keep in mind we are also talking about a Dodgers bullpen that certainly was not water-tight at Arizona in that series with the Diamondbacks. Also, the Angels bullpen has an ERA that ranks them in the lower half of the majors. That pen could be called upon early here because Detmers was called up from the minors for this one. I know he has had a stretch of better starts in the minors with strikeouts piling up this has happened with him in the past as well and then he struggles at the MLB level. His overall AAA numbers are not great this season and at the MLB level he struggled badly with the Angels and that is why he was demoted. His lefty on lefty numbers are not that impressive the last two seasons combined as he has been homer-prone and had some command issues against left-handed sticks so I do not see that as a big edge for him here either against Dodgers lefty bats. In the minors this season Detmers has a 5.54 ERA and with the Angels he has a 6.14 ERA this season! As for the Dodgers Buehler, he has been struggling since his return as he had a 6.00 ERA last month. On the season he has an 8.84 ERA on the road in his 5 starts and opponents have hit .333 against him. The Angels are not known for scoring big runs but this is a guy they can hit plus they have momentum from winning 3 of 4 games and they had scored 5 runs in B2B games at home versus Seattle before wrapping up that series with a low-scoring 3-2 win. The Dodgers have been involved in a lot of slugfests of late and I expect more of the same here. The Dodgers have averaged scoring 6.5 runs per game in their last dozen games and, overall, are on a 17-6 run triggered in the most recent parts of the hot streak by hot hitting at the plate too. 5 of their last 6 games have totaled at least 10 runs and the one that did not actually just missed as it totaled 9 runs. Those 6 games averaged 14.3 runs per game and I am expecting double digits again here based on all of the factors above. 5% OVER 9.5 in Los Angeles Angels
