2% Colgate @ Maine
Pair of struggling defenses here whose weaknesses fit the opponents strengths. For Maine their new QB Carter Peavy (Mercer transfer) is accustomed to throwing the football as evidenced by his 2,275 passing yards last season in Mercer’s high octane system. Here he gets to spearhead a Maine passing attack which returns their top 4 pass catchers and 74% of their receptions plus 78% of their receiving yards from a year ago. Colgate’s pass defense was the worst in the Patriot League last season allowing 283.5 pypg & 27 TD’s making this a desirable matchup for the Maine pass offense. Conversely, the Black Bears defense is extremely susceptible (allowed 416 typg LY / 46 TD’s & 32.7 ppg). HC Jordan Stevens is focusing on limiting big plays but said it may sound routine but it’s harder to get done than you think. Colgate has a trio of QB’s all with game experience and carious skill sets which makes preparing for this offense difficult. Money has come in on the “over” but still leaves us key numbers of 58 & 59 to cash which is important but may not be necessary in a game that should land in 60+ point territory.
