Analysis

3% Washington (6:45 ET): Maybe the third time will be the charm here for the Nationals? Or is it the sixth time? The club is now 0-5 head to head against the Mets in the season series, but what has transpired each of the L2 nights down in the Nation’s Capital is downright criminal. Both games saw the Nats jump out to early 2-0 leads. In each instance, the Mets were able to battle back and force extra innings. And it has been the 10th inning where they’ve had the Nats’ number. On Monday, NY scored SIX times in the top of the 10th, then it was FIVE times last night. That’s a combined 11 runs scored in the 10th inning alone, which is even more preposterous than believing a McDonald’s character is the reason the Mets are surging (just the 4th time a team has done it in B2B games EVER!)

Look, I get that these teams would appear to be “two ships passing in the night” when it comes to the NL East standings. When they met last month here in D.C., the Nationals entered the series with a 27-31 record and the Mets were 24-35. The respective seasons have gone very differently since that time. That being said, the Nats have had early leads in three of the five head to head meetings this season. I just do not see them being swept for a second straight time by their division rival.

Christian Scott is being recalled from the minors to start tonight for NY, so this is another chance for Washington to get ahead early. Scott is winless in his five starts at the big league level (1-4 TSR), all of which came back in May. He was worse on the road, including allowing four runs in four innings to the lowly Marlins. It will be Mitchell Parker on the mound here for the Nationals and he pitched pretty well in June (3.15 ERA), not to mention much better at home where he has a 2.27 ERA and 0.84 WHIP for the season. 3% Washington (Play to -105)
