Analysis

I'm going to punch back at the market and back the Red Sox here.

Josh Winckowski was sent down to Worcester in mid May, that was somewhat surprising to me because I didn't think be pitched poorly for the Sox and thought he was “up for good” but Boston needed a roster spot for Brayan Bello and Alex Cora decided long term it would be best if Winckowski got regular work in at Worcester.

The Red Sox wanted Winckowski to develop another pitch, presumably to stretch him out and convert him to a starter as he made 6 starts for Worcester with the overall results being very good.

We cashed with Worcester in one of those starts, a blowout win over Buffalo which was one of his final starts before being recalled to the big leagues.  In those last two starts Winckowski won both going 6 innings in each and giving up just one earned run with 12 strikeouts (in 12 innings).

I was wondering how that would translate to Winckowski getting a start in the big leagues last week, it wasn't the best spot for the Red Sox (Blue Jays were due) which is why I didn't bet it but Winckowski wasn't the reason the Red Sox lost that game.  Winckowski's start looked alot like his last two in AAA, 6 innings two runs (quality start) with 8 strikeouts and just one walk.

I don't think that's a fluke, that's consistent effort and the Red Sox desperately need to make one of those hold up now having lost three straight games.  I know no one wants to step in front of the Padres right now but the market has yet to properly adjust for Fernando Tatis being out so I think the Red Sox at -110 with every top bullpen arm available is a reasonable bet to make here.

Play on Red Sox -111 for 4% (or 4 units)
