Play Rating:
4% – Chicago White Sox -106 C Quantrill (RHP), J Cannon (RHP) Must Start

Next up in a long line of youngsters with big upside in the White Sox organization is Jonathan Cannon.  Similar to the other White Sox young pitchers (Thorpe, Nastrini) he was called up way before he was ready but he's now bounced back and forth from the White Sox to AAA for a few months (for context was at High A and AA last year) and has the makings of being a solid MLB pitcher.

Cannon was also drafted in 2022 (same draft as Thorpe who we backed last night) in the 3rd round and fired back to back gems against the Mariners and Astros before getting lit up by the Tigers last time out.

I'll give Cannon a pass there, it was on the road and in most other organizations Cannon is still in AAA (or maybe just getting called up right around now).  The White Sox are completely out of any sort of contention so it makes sense to go the “trial by fire” route but that also does pay off as Cannon now has 7 big league starts under his belt and it starting to look comfortable on a MLB mound.

I expect that to be the case again today, the Rockies play their AAA ball in Albuquerque which is in the PCL so Cannon likely a complete unknown to Rockies hitters.  Colorado starter Cal Quantrill, on the other hand, spent four seasons in Cleveland so the White Sox have had plenty of exposure to him.

Finally this goes back to what I was saying yesterday, we have multiple paths to victory here because it's still the Rockies who are now 11-30 on the road this season and have some of the worst road splits in MLB.  As crazy as it sounds the White Sox have a little momentum right now off a couple close wins and I think we ride that to another White Sox win on the South Side here.

Play on White Sox -106 for 4% (or 4 units)
