Analysis

(3%) ATLANTA. The Pirates usually have the pitching advantage when Skenes is on the mound. He's opposed by Fried in this one though. Fried allowed one run through six innings last start (against the Yankees) and has given up just 20 total runs in his last 13 starts. Over that span, he's 7-3 with a 2.12 ERA. So, as good as Skenes has been, its hard to be better and more consistent than Fried. It should be mentioned that Skenes has faced only one team currently guaranteed to go to the playoffs. The rest have come against teams either playing out the string or fighting to remain in the Wildcard hunt. The Braves will likely also be a Wildcard team but they're the best team other than the Dodgers which Skenes has faced. He allowed three runs in five innings (6 hits, 2 HRs) against LA and that was at home. Now, he's on the road against a top tier opponent. The Braves have the edge at the plate and in the bullpen. Pittsburgh relievers have a 4.76 ERA, Atlanta relievers have a 3.19 mark. The Braves are 46-24 their last 70, when listed as home favorites in the -125 to -175 range. I feel that the price is fair and expect them to improve on those stats this afternoon.
