Analysis

B.C. Lions -7.0 (-112)…(4%)

I waited until the line came back down to -7 to release this play after some shops had -6 and then it got as high as -8 at some spots.

This play combines a situational wager and a match-up-based play. Starting with the situational spot, the Elks are in a scheduling nightmare here in Week 4. After starting the season with back-to-back home games, the Elks travelled to Toronto to play in a thriller (losing by a field goal) and then are now being asked to travel to the other side of the country to play one of the top teams in the league, the B.C. Lions. The Elks might be off to a decent start against the spread (2-1), but their 0-3 straight-up record isn't looking good, and now they're tasked with the toughest team in the west division.

Elks QB Mcleod Bethel-Thompson made it clear how unsatisfied he is with the travel spot they're facing.

“To me, it’s astounding that a league with nine teams can’t figure out how to not play on a five-day week. If this league cares anything about player safety, it shouldn’t happen. There are plenty of ways to schedule this where no one plays on a five-day week. It’s kind of ridiculous and, again, a lack of leadership in the CFL."

To me, this is a lack of focus. Instead of feeding the media quotes about their game against one of the league's best, Bethel-Thompson complained about the travel spot and the rest disadvantage, even though every team in other leagues like the NFL have to deal with the same thing.

The B.C. Lions had a very competitive win last week over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where they looked like a very well-rounded football team, establishing the run and protecting their QB much better. There have been rumblings about Vernon Adams Jr and his injury, but all reports I have read state that he will be IN for Thursday's game.

The Lions have covered this spread in EIGHT STRAIGHT MEETINGS between these clubs and I expect no difference here. The defensive pressure the Elks will deal with and the explosive offence will be much different than what they faced last week against Toronto.
