Credit to Montreal for their double-digit underdog outright upset of Toronto in last week’s Conference Finals but see the running into a buzzsaw here today against Winnipeg. Alouettes have been in some sense a “smoke and mirrors” type squad all season and it was no more evident than last week when a 101 yd 1st quarter interception return turned the game around immediately. From there, Montreal added a 105 yd kickoff return in the 4th quarter after Toronto had closed to a 24-10 deficit and the Alouettes capped it off with another 22 yard “pick 6”. In all, 21 of the 38 points and 270 yards were produced by defense & special teams while the offense only contributed 17 & 244 270. Asking for even a semi duplicate performance isn’t likely here against Winnipeg which has been the league’s best overall team all season. In QB Zach Collaros, the Blue Bombers have arguably the CFL’s best, and they hold significant edges in receiving corps, running game, and offensive line. Defensively, fully expect the Winnipeg pass rush and run defense to leave the Alouettes without answers similar to what they did to the explosive BC Lions last week holding them to 13 points. Additionally, must note the mindset of Winnipeg which got to this stage last season and showed up a somewhat unfocused favorite leading to a heartbreaking 24-23 loss vs. Toronto. Expect them to be ready to redeem that performance and win this one in convincing fashion by 11+.
