New year, same story in Lynchburg? Liberty started last season 8-1 with wins over Arkansas, BYU and UAB. Then it became apparent that head coach Hugh Freeze was going to bolt for a big paycheck in the SEC. The Flames lost their last four games as tension between Freeze and the locker room grew toxic. Fast-forward 12 months and similar questions are beginning to arise. First-year head coach Jamey Chadwell is already receiving attention for some vacancies. There will be some players in the Flames’ locker room that may start experiencing deja vu after what they went through last season. Liberty has already clinched its spot in the Conference-USA Championship Game. Obviously, the Flames have motivation to keep their perfect season alive but there's no real incentive to go crazy on the scoreboard. If there is an opportunity to get QB Kaidon Salter off the field in the second half, Liberty should take it. UMass is coming off a bye week and the Minutemen won their two games prior to the break. UMass has enough pieces to keep this one respectable. The Minutemen lost to 9-2 Miami (Oh) by 13 points and lost to 10-1 Toledo by 17 points. A similar result here would be just fine by us.
