Eastern Michigan (1PM ET ESPN Plus) – We go 1-1 on the hardwood on Friday but unfortunately drop the one with the extra unit. St Mary’s “no-shows” again but Yale wins easily and it’s a 1-1 -2 units which certainly isn’t the end of the world after a 3-0 Thursday sweep. It’s on to Saturday, we will be active across CFB and CBB so let’s lock in our first CBB move of the day when the Eastern Michigan Eagles take on the Cleveland State Vikings at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
I think we have a couple of misleading results creating some solid line value on the home team here. First, Eastern Michigan was obliterated by 43 last time out by a Florida Atlantic team that looks to be every bit the squad that made it to the Final Four last season. Second, Cleveland State comes off what looked like a dominant performance against Canisius but there needs to be an asterisk next to it since star Canisius guard Tajh Staveskie was a game day scratch for the Griffs. That Canisius team isn’t even close to the same team without Staveskie so for me it takes some of the luster off that result for the Vikings. I also think Cleveland State has overachieved out of the gate, the Vikings are 3-0 ATS pushing a good Duquesne team to the wire, pulling the mild upset of Ohio and the result against Canisius. The common thread on that 3-0 ATS run for Cleveland State is the Vikings were either at home, an underdog or both. Now Cleveland State is a 2-3 possession favorite in a true road game and I think the pendulum has unnecessarily swung too far in the other direction here. Eastern Michigan is a team that has some upside, I think the Eagles could potentially be overachievers as well when it’s all said and done this season and we are getting fantastic value catching 2-3 possessions at home with the Eagles here. Play on Eastern Michigan +7 (-110) for 4% (or 4 units)
