4% Take Jacksonville (#460)
I want a good team off a bad game, when I see quotes like the ones below. Jacksonville, coming out of their bye week, got bombed at home by San Francisco last week, losing 34-3 while finishing -4 in turnovers, blown out from the opening kick.
QB Trevor Lawrence: “I think you have got to feel the pain and embarrassment of today. It’s terrible. It’s one of the worst games I’ve probably played in my career. ... We couldn’t do anything right, but you got to flush it, too….we’ve got to bounce back and play better next week. We’ve got another home game, so we’ve got that opportunity to play well. So we’ve got to flush it quick, and we will. The leaders on this team, we’ve been talking, we are made of the right stuff. You got to handle a little adversity along the way, and that’s what this is.”
Head coach Doug Pederson: “This was definitely a humbling experience….I told the team again, we haven't done anything here. We're trying to be like [San Francisco]. We're trying to have that consistency and to me this will be in some ways good for our players. A little bit of a wakeup call, quite honestly, myself included. Coaches, players, we all have to think about what are we willing to give up these next eight games so we don't do this again. I think our players will rebound, they always have, and we look forward to next week."
LB Foyesade Oluokun: “We know the type of team we’re capable of being…Not that we wanted (that blowout loss) to happen, but blessings for everything and we’ll learn from it…our backs against the wall, we fight…We will be better.”
Coming off their worst home loss since 2019, this is clearly a step-up, max intensity spot for the home favorite.
Meanwhile, the Titans problems run much deeper than Jacksonville’s barf bag performance last week. Tennessee is 1-4 SU in their last five games. They 0-8 SU in their last eight road games, covering the spread in only two of those eight losses. The Titans haven’t scored more than 16 points in ANY of those last eight road losses, and the offense is clearly still very problematic after Derrick Henry’s 11 rushes for 24 yards performance last week.
Baker Mayfield gained 8.2 yards per pass against this defense last week; Titans rookie QB Will Levis gained just 3.9 ypp while taking four sacks and throwing an INT. The Titans cluster injury problems on their offensive line aren’t likely to help this week against an elite Jags defensive front. Expect a multi-score victory for the home favorite. Take the Jaguars.
