Michael Morales (-265) vs Jake Matthews:
Overall I'm very high on the young 23 year old prospect in Michael Morales. Kid absolutely has raw talent backed by a athleticism and explosiveness. 15-0 pro record with a solid 3-0 record under the UFC banner. Impressively Morales finished Trevin Giles in UFC debut, as well as beating a tough UFC vet in Max Griffin. Matching him up with stiffer opposition only shows how his team and UFC believe in him. While Jake Matthews has had mixed results against mid tier opponents throughout his career. Stylistically, it's a bad match up for Jake who's got slower developing combinations in the pocket with a willingness to exchange always moving forward. Against Morales who's far more explosive with versatile striking working angles I believe Jake will be overwhelmed allowing the lighter footed Morales picking him apart. Furthermore Jake's displayed an iffy chain in multiple occasions and although his striking defense is good Morales backs power. Even if Jake seeks takedowns I believe the 91% takedown defense rate for Michael will hold up providing opportunity to control the action on the feet. Also have to include the high fight IQ of such a young fighter who's shown patience and very risk adverse. Against Max Griffin he could have pushed a finish but played it safe to a decision win. To me it's showing maturity in the cage gaining valuable experience. Think his distance management, slick striking and well rounded skill set will bring home the W.
Ailin Perez (-180) vs Lucie Pudilova:
This line should be much wider providing strong value as a parlay piece. Now I know I can't talk up Ailin's most recent victory over Ashlee Evans-Smith but what I can offer is the pace, pressure and takedowns of Perez. She was successful in a solid 10 of 15 takedown attempts winning by unanimous decision. This shows a good gas tank as well as sticking to the gameplan and path of least resistance. It's pretty much how I see this fight playing out Saturday… Perez bullying Pudilova for 3 rounds and in the Apex cage it'll assist her in her efforts. The biggest difference maker in this fight will be the physicality of Perez, whom should be bigger and stronger. The relentless takedowns will smother any offense Lucie attempts banking rounds pushing this towards the judges scorecards possibly. While I just don't see Pudilova having the ability keep fight on the feet, sure she'll defend a few but her back will be up against the fence most of fight. Let's not forget Lucie is also 1-5 in her last 6 UFC appearances. Not good. Should be one way wrestling traffic nullifying Lucie controlling the action.
