When you get to the final week or two of the Baseball Season it can be tricky. Some teams have zero to play for so handicapping motivation is a key part of the process. Neither The White Sox or Washington have anything to play for. Both teams come off playing 1st place teams over the weekend and both only won one game over the weekend so no edge there. Washington returns home from a Road trip and we like to fade the home team 1st game back so we give the White Sox the edge there. We also give the White Sox a big edge in this starting pitcher match up. Washington sends Joan Adon to the mound who in 7 starts has an ERA of 6.00 and a WHIP of 1.51. In his 4 home starts it’s even worse as his ERA jumps to 7.94 and his WHIP is 1.82. The White Sox send Mike Clevinger to the mound who has been razor sharp in his L2 starts going 13 innings allowing just 2 Runs while posting a K/BB ratio of 14-0. That tells me he had full command of all of his pitches. So we clearly have a huge edge in starting pitchers and thus why I am making this a 1st 5 Inning wager taking the Bullpens out of the equation. All that is enough to take the WHITE SOX but there is one more reason to back him as 16 of his 21 starts he’s allowed 3 runs or less. In 8 of those 16 starts he’s allowed 0 or 1 run. It must be noted that Clevinger signed a 1 year deal with the White Sox this year he wants to finish strong as he’s pitching for a new contract for next year. We also find the following:
