3% Take Western Kentucky (#163)
Ohio State reloads, true, but don’t underestimate how much talent this team lost this past offseason. They lost a first round NFL draft choice at QB, WR and left tackle on offense. No surprise, then, that the Buckeyes offense has been sluggish the first few weeks of the season, scoring just 23 and 35 points against defenses no better than the one they’ll face on Saturday.
Western Kentucky is likely going to have to score some touchdowns to cover this pointspread. I expect the Hilltoppers to have some success throwing the football around against Ohio State’s secondary; a unit that struggled at times last year. QB Austin Reed threw for more than 4700 yards last year; 13 different receivers have caught a pass through the first two weeks. WKY has a relentless passing game protected by one of the better offensive lines in Conference USA.
Western Kentucky is primed to hang around for a long while in this one. If they do fall behind early, they’ve got the big play passing game to hang a cheap TD or two on the scoreboard. And Ohio State has a real lookahead concern, with Notre Dame on deck – I’m not sure they’ll have proper focus if they go into halftime with a big lead. Too many points! Take Western Kentucky
