1% Tarik Skubal (DET) Over 5.5 Strikeouts Thrown (-140) — vs. LA Angels —
Despite the juice on the over here, this is a great number for Skubal, who has gone over in 5 consecutive starts. That includes an impressive outing against Cleveland, who is one of the best teams when it comes to striking out in the entire league. Skubal has gone over this number in 4 of his 5 starts this season as a favorite, and normally has an edge being a southpaw.
As for the Angels, 6 of the L7 starting pitchers to face LA have gone over this number, averaging over 7 K’s per start. Plus, while LA has been decent against LHP when it comes to the K’s, when they are playing as an underdog, 3 of the L4 LHP have gone over this number. The quality LHP are the ones that are getting to this Angels team, and Skubal falls in that category, despite playing for Detroit.
The Angels have the 4th worst K% overall since the All-Star break (26.1%) and over that same span, they are striking out 26% of the time vs. LHP @ night. Their ”positive” numbers in K% vs. LHP are very situational, and in my opinion, this is not a situation where they apply.
I like Skubal to continue his run tonight.
