3% Take Detroit (#270)
The betting market are going too ‘knee jerk’ towards Seattle this week, backing the 0-1 playoff contender off an embarrassing home loss against the 1-0 playoff contender off the huge road win. But Seattle got embarrassed at home last week for good reason – it was no aberration. Detroit matches up well, and the Lions haven’t forgotten their wild 48-45 defeat in Seattle last year; playing with some meaningful revenge here in Week 2.
The Seahawks lost both starting offensive tackles to injury against the Rams. Abraham Lucas went on IR after the game; Charles Cross doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to suit up on Sunday and if he does, I’m not convinced he’ll be anywhere near 100%. Seattle was thoroughly blown off the field in the second half without those two guys, outgained 257-12 and outscored 23-0; non-competitive. And the Seahawks cluster injuries in the secondary were a major concern as well, with starters Devon Witherspoon and Jamal Adams both very questionable for this week.
Detroit’s biggest strength is in the trenches, on the offensive and defensive lines. That’s a problem for the Seahawks who’s biggest weaknesses might well be on the offensive and defensive lines. Detroit has had extra time to prepare coming off their Thursday Night opener. The quotes coming out of THIS locker room are surging with confidence.
Amon Ra-St Brown: “My rookie year, I feel like those games were losses for us every time, just chalk it up, but now I feel like we're going to win every game. I go into every game thinking we better win, and if we don't, there's something wrong. That's just the mentality I feel like we all have, and I feel like that's what helps us going into games, that confidence, that swagger that we have. I love this team, they're a bunch of guys that I love to go to war with.”
Cornerback CJ Gardner Johnson: “This ain't the same Detroit. I keep reiterating that. From the joint practices to all the other practices, winners know what winners look like. This team is full of winners. Being on teams that's been successful, I'm just happy to be a part of guys that want to play ball and go out here and get a W.” Lay it or don’t play it! Take the Lions.
