All the problems that Colorado had with the Nebraska defense last week not likely to happen here for a couple reasons
1 – That game plan was put together under the leadership of Matt Ruhle whose NFL defensive mind was going to be a problem for Colorado’s young group
They had trouble recognizing when pressure was coming & where pressure was coming from and because he was hurried QB Shedur Sanders was unable to make accurate reads or throws (8 sacks in 44 pa / 5 1H)
Nebraska QB Jeff Sims kept turning the ball over / Huskers defense eventually wore down and Colorado got to 36 points without running on all cylinders for the majority of the game
2 – Nebraska is far superior defensively compared to Colorado State which opened against high tempo Washington State and got their heads handed to them
On the field for 87 plays / Allowed 556 total yards (466 passing & 7% completions) / 3 sacks in 50 pass attempts against
Even With A Week Off Colorado State Doesn’t Figrure to Pose Those Problems to Colorado’s Offense
Couple reasons…
CSU doesn’t have Matt Ruhle to game plan but they could watch the tape and try to copy what he did…BUT
Rams don’t have the defensive horses to pull it off and the Colorado offense has now seen that style of aggressive defense and can adjust
Washington State & Colorado are very similar offensively in their “extreme tempo” / dual threat QB (if Cam Ward was the CU QB he’d be getting the Shedur Sanders praise)
Colorado State’s defense just proved they can’t stop that type of speed and explosive passing game and it’s coming at them again…They’d need better defensive personnel over the past two weeks
What Colorado State Can Do Is Go After Colorado’s Defense With A Passing Game
Colorado’s defense is vulnerable and not as cohesive as Washington State’s which is in their second year of the system and guys know it unlike CU which is just learning
CSU did finally figure it out in the 4Q vs WSU by scoring 21 points and with the extra week to prep they could have implemented something extra (2 QB’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi led 4Q rally-Clay Millen)
Buffaloes were torched by TCU in week 1 for 541 total yards / 6.8 ypp / 42 points (262 ry / 279 py)
Nebraska had zero semblance of a passing game for Colorado to worry about
CSU had 320 py vs. WSU
