While this AL Central division is obviously no where near the best division in the league, they have been a very interesting division and this Detroit team has had some relatively impressive surprises. When you look at their performances in the opening game of a series, they have won 10 of the 16 and covered 11 of them on the RL. That includes a 9-3 record in the L12 (10-2 on RL), winning SU on average despite being a +130 dog. Detroit is also a perfect 3-0 ML+RL against the division this season in their series openers. 

Detroit took the final game of the previous series as a dog against the Royals, taking down Greinke, which could be good for this game as well, as they are 11-5 SU (12-4 RL) off an upset win as a dog. Which includes a 4-0 record when the game to follow is the opening game of a new series, and 7-1 SU (8-0 RL) when the following game is at home! 

Chicago, on the other hand, is struggled putting their best foot forward to start their series this season. They have dropped 2 of their 3 series openers on the road against the division, and while they are off a shutout win, they are just 1-3 this season when they won by 5+ runs. 

Detroit’s pitching staff has lifted the team to a 6-2 RL record against the division, as they have allowed just 2.4 runs/game, on .197 combined batting! While Giolito, for the White Sox, is just 1-4 on the RL in his 5 road starts this season (5.14 ERA).
