5% #919 Texas Rangers (-131) over Pittsburgh Pirates — w/ Dunning & Ortiz —
Pittsburgh was one of the hottest teams to start of the year … but that has cooled down quickly. In the month of May, the Pirates are just 4-13, which includes a 2-10 record as a dog, and 1-8 as a dog against RHP! They have lost 5 of their L6 games coming off a loss @ home, and have lost 3 straight series openers against RHP.
Not to mention, they are throwing Ortiz who has made just 2 starts this season and has lost both of them for the Pirates. He has posted a 5.63 ERA and has lost 5 consecutive starts back to last year!
Dane Dunning takes the hill for the Rangers and he looks like a new pitcher this year. He is currently 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA (8 relief appearances), but the team has won 2 of the 3 games he has started. The only loss for the Rangers in a game started by Dunning was actually a 5-inning outing against the Mariners where he didn’t allow a run, but they weren’t able to get the job done! So despite the loss, still an impressive outing for Dunning.
Texas’ offense has exploded as of late, putting up consecutive games with 10+ runs, and recording double-digit hits in 6 of the L7 games! The Rangers are 9-2 this season after scoring 10+ runs in their previous game, and 4-0 this season off a double-digit win! They are also 14-6 this season as a F against RHP. That includes 13 wins in the last 17 attempts … and a 6-1 record in the L7 games!
