3% Take Seattle (#969) (listed pitchers)
Here’s an excerpt from what I wrote about George Kirby and the Mariners in Kirby’s last start, at Boston, a 10-1 Mariners victory. Numbers have been edited to reflect current realities.
“Seattle got off to an 11-16 start, struggling out of the gate. The Mariners are 11-7 since including an 8-4 mark on the highway; playing their best baseball of the year right now, with numerous underachieving bats starting to heat up. Emerging ace George Kirby has thrown seven consecutive quality starts, eating up innings and dominating solid lineups. The relievers behind him rank #4 in MLB in bullpen ERA.”
The Braves are 0-3 in Jared Shuster’s three big league starts as he’s bounced between AAA and Atlanta. He’s not ready yet, but with Max Fried and Kyle Wright on the injured list, Shuster got another call-up. The mediocre bullpen behind him has been used extensively this past week; the Braves lineup supporting him isn’t clicking on all cylinders. And with an 11-10 mark at home compared to 17-7 on the highway, it’s certainly not like the Braves home field is worth much to the line these days. Take the Mariners
